Ricin in baby food
Poison found in two jars of baby food purchased at the same store was not in a deadly form and the two infants who ate small of amounts of the banana yogurt did not even fall ill, officials saidThe contamination of the Gerber brand food was disclosed Wednesday by police, who are searching for a man they believe may have witnessed the tampering. Charles Dewey Cage, 47, of Irvine, was "in the area at a relevant time," said Orange County District Attorney Tony Rickracks. -- (ABC News)
The FBI and Orange County District Attorney's Office are investigating who tampered with the baby food. The jars had notes placed in them that warned of the contamination. There is no Gerber recall in effect.

Pretty damned evil. Luckily the perp was too stupid to grind the beans properly, it seems. I'm surprised we didn't hear about that earlier.

The good thing about Ricin is that while it's terribly poisonous, it's most deadly while it's being produced. In order to be most effective, you have to breathe in a cloud of it - and you make it by grinding the outsides of castor beans, which of course produces clouds of ricin.
All of which means that there are probably other people that have wanted do something similar, but died trying.
