NYC, Newark, Washington on alert

For those of you who don't read the news on a regular basis you may have missed this bit of information I found on the front page of Google News.

Citing "unusually specific" intelligence that al-Qaida plans to attack landmark financial institutions in New York, Newark and Washington, most likely with truck or car bombs, the federal government yesterday raised the threat level to "high" for the five reported targets, including the New York Stock Exchange.

At a hastily called news conference yesterday, Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge disclosed that the government had received "unusually specific information" that al-Qaida intends to attack the stock exchange and the Citigroup buildings in New York, as well as the Prudential financial building in Newark and the World Bank and International Monetary Fund buildings in Washington. -- (NewsDay)

Geez, it's a good thing that they published all of that crap, cause otherwise, the press would have had nothing better to talk about than.... John Kerry's plan for health care? I dunno, any of the issues? The news hasn't covered any of them.

Huh? Did you mean to post this somewhere else?

No, I'm accusing the Bush administration of issuing terror alerts to try to drown out news stories they don't want discussed.

The lack of specifics on the timing some of the information seized about the surveillance of five buildings was as much as four years old has led critics to question whether the administration overreacted.
